Recommendations For Alarmed Exit Hardware

I have a client that has a "problem building" to put it mildly. They are looking for ways to make the building more secure but have limited funds to do it.

One of the problems is unauthorized persons being let in via the fire exits which are not monitored or alarmed. I figure the simplest way to fix this one issue is with alarmed exit hardware, and was wondering if anyone could suggest their preferred manufacturer and model.
