The short version is that there is a voltage input that tells the illuminator when (and I believe how fast) to fire. But I do not have experience with them personally. We'll ask Raytec to comment.

What camera(s) are you planning to use with these illuminators?

I have send an email to Raytec but unfortunate haven't received a reply yet. As we are setting up a pilot in which we will try to get usable pictures of drivers (beside the license plates) using these are a option. as well as using a p-iris lens and polarization lenses. i have seen some captures from drivers in cars where they are using pulsed activated LEd's (in this case white light) and these where very usable. unfortunate it is from the government and they do not want to give any details so we have to set-up our own pilot for our customer. as i understand it has to be synchronized with the shutter speed but It is unclear for me when and how etc etc. will it be motion based or by an external detector etc.

The camera model is more important to know than the illuminator.

For instance, Axis sells IR illuminators (OEMd from Raytec possibly???), here is the guide to setting up the sync between them and their cameras.
