Prox 125 Khz Applications?

It has been well documented that prox 125 kHz is not the most secure card technology (yet we as an industry that sells safety and security, we still use it).

Outside of “my customer asks for it” or “my customers don’t care.” What are the appropriate use cases or scenarios to use prox and why do we still use it?
