Opinions On Kantech Vs Other Access Control Systems?

I have a client that i inherited and has a Kantech system. A mix of the KT-1 and KT400. It is not a system our company would install by preference and Kantech is not a familiar system. With that I have no problem learning what is needed to provide service the client deserves. However they question the current system they have will deliver the security needs they are looking for. So I am inquiring opinions of the Kantech system as a whole compared to others and who suggest their preference.

I don't care for it personally. It's software is hard to deal with. I wasn't impressed with tech support. Some version are restricted. It's ADT go to system. It's built on an older foundation.

I find myself having headaches with this system. Maybe because its foreign to me and trying to learn but the software and building holidays seems more difficult then it should be. The client is faced with make this work or install something better that will. We are primarily DSX but as a contractor I prefer to build client relations over selling systems I prefer. So if i can make this work and save them 6k then that goes a long way forging relationships into the future. Just looking for some input if the Kantech is not worth it for the long haul. Thanks Ty

Why not complete a Kantech training course? Once you have completed the course you can compare to the access control systems you are used to and give a decent opinion. i completed the course without problem and find it a functional logical system to use.

Short answer, great for non guard/monitored environments.  Fits very well for most of our commercial, industrial, retail and K-12 end-users.

Positives:

Kantech has one of the better user client interfaces IMO for casual or non guard users.  Using the web based (available with the Corp Edition and up I think) and mobile app is a great experience for our customers.  From a tech support standpoint that part has been great with fewer end user calls on how to do things.  Likewise we have few if any hardware issues with the platform.  Their tech support is generally competent / above average.

They require corporate training for certification and support for the top two "levels" of the software but leave the basic starter version open.  Can be a PITA but it does help protect their channel/dealers.

Negatives:

But if you have a monitored/guard set-up then a lot of the functionality for that is in the thick client, which is not good as it is very dated.  Most of the initial set-up and advance configuration occurs in the thick client as well.  Their tech support hold times are higher and there is a distinct attitude from most.

Overall we have no hesitation recommending it and using it for many of our clients.  The negatives are all on the back side.  Most of the customer experience is positive which is what we base it on.  Our techs can deal with the ugly thick client and leave the customer to the web based version.  It ties in very well with Exacq VMS if that is in your line-up.

Thank you for your input. That helps. I already experienced the tech support attitude but like you said. Better the tech then the client. I am working with my regional sales rep to help design this better then how it was left for me to inherit. Starting with the base level software. They are not integrating anything, it is just stand alone access control. So should be good for the long haul.
