PoE Surge Protection

Hi

We have several outdoor cameras in an install. The PoE ports on our Cisco SF-300 xxP switches connected to these outfdoor cameras fail regularly. Same switch on indoor system simply last forever to the extend of over about 50 SF-300 xxP in the field only 2 , that are coincidentally connected to those outdoor cameras have failed.

We believe a PoE Surge Protector would help. Would it? Does anyone has any experience in surge Protectors that support PoE? Or are they the same as those for regular Ethernet?
