So much I didn't know when I purchased my first NVR. The specs looked good and the features covered all the areas I was interested in. Now I'm realizing it falls way short of my visualized operation and I don't know if that is the standard or just a low grade NVR. First issue was setting up- the NVR does not support touch screen monitor or any kind of keyboard; just a USB mouse and an onscreen keyboard. Second issue- when the NVR did not perform intelligent recognition functions, I tried to verify the firmware was current. The only way was to contact Tech Support and they are apparently the only ones to have access to such information. And they wouldn't tell me what the current version is; they had to have a team viewer session and determine for themselves. When that did not resolve my issues, tech support said they would contact the manufacturer to determine the cause with no workaround offered in the meantime. Moving on to the third issue- using the playback function to review motion event recordings; an entire day is searched and events displayed on a bar. The bar displays events for all 24 hours or in 5 minute increments; that's it. Hit play and click on the bar to see the event of interest. It can be speeded up or slowed down by a factor of 8; no backing up or selective stepping. It's so cumbersome to use, I avoid it. So many motion events because the intelligent recognition doesn't work; it takes all day to look at it. Issue 4 is with backup- cloud backup is to dropbox, period. And, it is only the events detected; cannot backup the entire raw data from the cameras. Issue 5 is also with backup- it does not backup the event as viewed on playback. Playback includes both pre and post recording. Backup records starting at trigger point and for a maximum of 30 seconds. And, if the event goes on for 2 or 3 minutes, the backup does not get it because there was only one trigger. Almost useless. Issue 6 is a lesser problem- the harddrive data cannot be selectively erased; change the camera on an input and the option is to reformat the entire harddrive. Issue 7 is with documentation- actually the issue is with the lack of it. Very poorly translated and minimally informative. And Issue 8- I'm told this is as good as it gets! If I buy another NVR from another manufacturer, it will be much the same. I find it hard to believe but can't find information online to the contrary. And, it gets a little expensive to buy and second or third NVR just to see it there's something better.
