Nucleus Life

Add a Weatherproof case, I/O ports and a management software and this can sure put a dent in the $1000 per unit Aiphone systems.

#1, thank's for sharing. I added their promo video to make it easier for people to see what they are offering.

I like it but it strikes me more as a videoconferencing device?

As you say, if they added those things, it certainly could compete with commercial systems, though like Dropcam I suspect they are far more focused on the potentially bigger, more greenfield home market.

Yes I agree. Video conferencing, baby monitoring is what attracts the much larger consumer audience and it makes much sense for them to stay in that space.

I will take back what I said earlier, why would any smart company want to sell to an integrators by going through old school manufacturer rep firms, distribution channels that adds markup and no value and an installer that calls himself an integrator and add another 50% markup because he ran few cables and ya.. programmed an IP address and by doing so they loose the most important thing...actual feedback from the end user to their products.

I also remembered that Dahua already have something similar for $100 a unit 😁

I think it's cool that Amazon was interested to invest. The war continues for home automation between Amazon & Google and the wanna be's internet/security/cable companies.

Nice.  As a "consumer" I love the idea, although privacy is always my first concern with always-on cloud audio/video.  As a mostly-residential systems integrator, it's clear that my already numbered days are now fewer.  None of the tools at my disposal offer any such frictionless capability even for several orders of magnitude more money, despite the fact that many of us have been screaming for better from the hilltops for years.  Sigh.
