I have a client with a PoE 15W Max IP camera that has a cable run length of about 350ft. It has worked for over three years on a standard PoE switch, but recently stopped working. The camera has been tested with a laptop and PoE injector and it seemed to work fine. And it worked for about 30 mins when put back in service. We reterminated the CAT5E run when we put it back in service and thought that was the fix, only to be notified 30 mins later that it went out again. There isn’t a great place to put a midspan in the cable run and I would prefer to install a long range PoE injector at the head end to try to make up for the added cable length.
So, if you have used an injector if this type before and have any insight it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to find as affordable of a solution as possible, so please don’t recommend a $500 device as I would simply find a spot for a midspan at that point, or wire 12VDC locally at the camera instead. I’m hoping there is a solution that I can patch in at the head end for $100 or less.
