Memphis Wants To Raise False Alarm Fines

They're voting on an ordinance tomorrow. If it passes, they'll raise the cost of a residential alarm license to $10, charge $50 per false alarm (from $25), and revoke licenses after the 6th false alarm or 3rd false fire alarm.

They also mention that one location, a Pizza Hut, generated 44 false alarms last year, so I can see why they're getting fed up.

Thoughts?

Memphis recently reported 70,000 false, unnecessary alarm response, over 99% error.  The new ordinance will simply deliver more of the same, but this time they expect to get paid.  Follow the money….

If they were serious about solving the problem, they would apply one of the several court tested and street tested programs, such as VR-Verified Response or SR-Subsidy.
