Looking For Some Advice On Purchasing A Used Scissor Lift

Generally, when we are on a job site, the contractor has a scissor lift. So we hardly ever have to rent one. However, we may need one internally for a few months where we would need to pay for it. Costing us about $1500   So I am looking to purchase a used one.

All things considered, what would you go for, a 2013 19'  one with 200 hours @ $6200 or a 2007 26' one with 500 hours for  $4500.

The 2013 is in better physical condition but the 2007 is not in bad shape.

Thank you

My concern would be the maintenance on this and also the tax burden this could possibly be. If you lease every time then you bill the customer for that and don't have to worry about equipment malfunction and also your liability would be less. I'm not saying buying one is a bad idea but I don't know many integrators who actually own a lift. Bucket trucks on the other hand I see quite frequently.

I think if you only need it for a few months, and the cost is $1500 you might be better off just renting.

The lift isn't just a one time cost, you have to factor maintenance and repairs into that. And as Shannon said I guess there's probably insurance and liability too? But I don't know about that.

That being said, I think you're better off with the 2013 one. Unless you feel you may need the extra few feet from the 2007 26'.

If you are buying used look to get a unit that includes a safety certification or you may end up spending thousands fixing up an otherwise useless unit.
