Hello IPVM,

Have you any insight about amazon rekognition? Its a video analytics similar to BriefCam. Would love to see a review/comparison.

We have not looked into rekognition at this time.

Though, from a quick look, I do not think it would be appropriate to compare it to Briefcam, or most other end-user oriented analytics products.

Rekognition is more of a framework to build applications on top of. It could potentially be used to build something that would be a Briefcam competitor, but in its default state, it is not a "product".

I agree with what's been said above.  I did some crude work with it back in Jan. of this year.  The use case was to compare an image taken at a door w/ an Axis A8105-E with the ID on file when a user entered via electronic access control.  If confidence of match was high, great; If not it could kick out for human review.  I did not take it to the point of full automation but may get back to it eventually.   Testing showed decent results but the biggest driver was that high-res very in-line image from the A8105-E.   Testing w/ more traditional camera placements (higher, angled, etc) shows much less useful results as expected to some degree.  It has potential for some niche cases.

Thanks, that's very interesting. Related, I am still quite curious how deep learning will do with the more common placed poorly angled surveillance shots. I suspect that drive down results significantly vs marketing claims being made.
