My company is ramping up to get ~200+ cameras ordered per month. We feel very good about our camera supplier but we’re worried about our peripheral components. We sell a bundle with cat5 cable and a PoE switches. I’m worried these may fail over time.
Thus far, we have ordered ~100 cheap PoE switches from Amazon (brand linked at the bottom). We have a 1 % failure rate in about 6 months of operation. Has anyone ever had experience with cheap PoE switches operating past year 1? Are they very failure-prone after year 1?
I’m trying to figure out if I should be ordering higher price PoE switches. This would be more expensive and eat into already thin margins, but may make sense if my switches are likely to break in the next 5 years. If I can get a switch that lasts 5 years, I won’t need to buy a replacement and deal with upset customers because of poor reliability.
What do you think? Go with a higher quality PoE switch? Just investigate my current PoE supplier deeper and see if I can get an improved warranty or something? Any recommendations on a cheap switch with good warranty?
