Is Fiber ISP Cable More Durable Than Coax?

I've been slugging it out with the ISP in my area, trying to convince them my internet connection is flaky for reasons unrelated to my LAN. (Their tech support pointlessly troubleshoots my stuff every time I have connection issues - it ain't my stuff, and I lol at them, which they never appreciate...)

I talked to them last week on this (again), and they told me they were going to install a fiber-optics drop at my house because their 'coax infrastructure is getting old' and is likely playing a role in my poor service. Sure enough, they are today:
