IPVM is seeking an Editor-in-Chief to oversee and lead our investigative business journalism.

IPVM is a profitable, independent company with a strong and growing base of over 15,000 paying members. We started with video surveillance industry news and research but are expanding to cover security technology more generally, including its business, political, and ethical impacts.

IPVM has complete editorial independence. We refuse advertisements and sponsorships and have no outside owners, i.e. no VCs, private equity, or wealthy benefactors. We have ~25 employees including a 12,000-square foot test facility where our researchers test technology, so our reporting benefits from our own internal results (see our scientific study published in the Journal of Biomedical Optics this year).

IPVM's founder has been its de facto Editor-In-Chief but with the company's growth, we need an experienced editor to lead our reporting. The main focus is investigating and exposing industry issues that large companies do not want to be revealed - everything from human rights violations to workplace sexual harassment and public health dangers. The right candidate will be excited to have the opportunity to go after impactful stories, fight for what is ethical, and expose what is unethical.

In the past 6 months, IPVM has collaborated on reporting with leading publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times, the BBC, and the LA Times. Our reporting has also been cited more than 100 times in the last year by various publications around the world.

We request candidates submit a resume along with examples/clips of successful work. This position is open to people in any location.

To apply, email careers@ipvm.com or myself, the founder, at john@ipvm.com.

Members, the posting is addressed to potential candidates but, of course, you are welcome to share any comments or questions about this. Candidates will be reading this so feel free to share your thoughts!

We are looking for someone outside of the industry, from mainstream publications, who has experienced doing hard-hitting investigations and excited about the potential of bringing such expertise to the security technology market.

John only shows "disdain" when sales and marketing people are untruthful or not using the correct words and spelling.

destain for sales and marketing people?

Totally, we want to 'de-stain' sales and marketing people....

Good investigative journalists are not going to be fans of 'sales and marketing' spin.
