iPad Vs Monitor For In-Wall Viewing?

We have a small lab that we will install (4) cameras in. They want to be able to view these cameras before going into the lab. This will hopefully prevent someone from walking in when an experiment is going on. And yes there will also be a light to indicate if testing is in progress.

What I'm struggling with is will it be better to have a flush mounted in wall iPad or monitor. The iPad will be better because it will be running an app for the VMS so there can be a lot more functionality if it's ever needed. But i don't know about having an iPad on 24/7. The monitor would just be most likely a value based monitor that would have a spot out connection from the VMS. In fact that will have to be split because there will be a monitor at each of the two doors.

Has anyone done something similar? How did it turn out? Would you do anything differently?

Ty, thanks for sharing. I am curious what people say here. I've heard that iPads or other tablets are not built for constant usage but we don't have any experience or testing to confirm or refute that.

You could go with something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-NW801H-inches-Monitor-Built/dp/B0722HBVM5/

It is a low cost, small monitor that you can run to the VMS.  It has HDMI and VGA inputs.  This way you don't have to worry about wifi, or app/os updates, etc.

You could also run it to a raspberry pi that is set to run something (VLC) to view the cameras on bootup.

Something like this, at first glance, seems to be what we would lean towards if we went with an iPad.

Surface Mount iPad - PoE or 24vdc
