We just finished an install for an apartment block with a considerable vandalism issue using a Hikvision DS-7616NI-Q2 and a mix of Value Express, Value, and Performance cameras. We enabled video tampering and connected the alarm output to a Honeywell Vista-21IP using a relay to switch it from NO to NC. So far that setup works well.
The issue is last night some scumbag went into a stairwell and unscrewed a lightbulb. This had the effect of darkening the scene and the video tampering went off before the camera was able to switch it's light on (ColorVu). We attended today and did a few more tests and discovered this happens with all cameras when someone shuts the lights off in a room or hallway.
