Hikvision Recorder Mysteriously Stopped Recording

have an integrator friend who installed a 4 camera hikvision system in a bar September 2017.

The bar had an incident last week, and they discovered the nvr had not been recording since January 2018.

Hikvison support remotes into the unit, and said everything was set correctly, but could not get the unit to start recording.

The integrator told his techs to pull the power and restart

it started recording again.

Has anyone experienced this? Can my integrator depend on this unit ?

it is set up for remote access  could this be a back door vulnerability?

We don't use Hik but I have seen some odd issues like that with Dahua. It may be best to have the device auto reboot weekly.

"The bar had an incident last week, and they discovered the nvr had not been recording since January 2018."

hmmmm...

I don't know about that NVR, nor the manufacturers lack of support kung fu - but it sure sounds to me as if this 'missing recordings' problem could've been avoided if the bar owner, I don't know, checked the system every once in a while?

Almost all live views that I have ever seen have those nice little red circles on them to let you know the camera is being recorded.

Agreed

my first impression is their are other operational issues present.

Was told the unit is in a locked closet that only the owner has access to, and employees do not have the ability to view or review

Could this be a heat related issue? Have you seen the unit and the lockbox? Does this recorder have an internal or external PSU? Have you checked the condition of the fans? Have you ran a test on the HDD? Lots of things could be going wrong.
