Getting A Lot Of Pushback From Employees About Filling Out Job Reports, What Do You Do?

So as the company is growing, I am realizing that I am not knowing a lot of times what exactly was done on a project, what stage we are up to, what needs to be done and what needs to be orderd. I know there is software like simpro to keep track of this, but we are not that size yet that can afford it.

So I put together a simple google form that can be filled out from the phone or from a computer. It has a few fields:

*date

*name of the person filling out the form

* name of job

* who else was on the job

* Work Completed

* Work Still Needs to be done

* Material use (that was designated for the job)

* Materials used from stock

* Materials need to be ordered

I asked that the crew chief for each job to fill it out, not everyone.

I am getting a lot of push back from my forman saying something along the lines of "this will take an hour to fill out so all of us will need to stop work an hour earlier. "

I dont see how this takes an hour to fill out, it should take 5 - 10 minutes. I am not looking for a minute by minute report rather an overall idea. Am I wrong here?

How long should such a report take to fill out, do you have your crews do things like this?
