Event Triggering On-Camera IR

I'm curious if anyone has experience with triggering on camera IR illumination on events.  The idea would be to ensure the lighting is only enabled when motion is detected from a PIR or another type of sensor/radar.  Trying to avoid having the IR lighting burn all night long, unless its needed on event in an outdoor location.  All ideas welcome!

Thanks!
