Elevator Door As Part Of A Sally Port

i have a installation where they have to have the elevator door work as on of the Sally Port doors so when the lobby door is open the elevator door won’t and vise versa.

How can I accomplish this if the elevator company doesn’t have a door position switch?  We are using Lenel for the access control head end. Suggestions

The elevator company should be able to provide you with a dry-contact relay output telling you when the doors to the elevator car are opened when the elevator is on that floor. This is probably something that will have to be custom engineered and installed by the elevator company and won't be cheap, but it can be done. The last custom elevator interface that I did the elevator company charged my client several thousand dollars.

This is a practical example where the fee being charged has everything to do with the inflexibility of the elevator company, and very little to do with the actual technical difficulty in doing it.

You are absolutely correct. In my most recent case, the adding of a simple relay required that an "Engineering Change Request" be submitted to the elevator manufacturer, the preparation of an engineering drawing, and the approval of this drawing by several departments before it could be sent to the mechanic in the field who did the actual work.

Are video analytics possible? Think of the scene in the movie The Shining where all the koolaid comes pouring out of the doors. Possible analytics option here.

Camera: Are the elevator doors closed?

Analytics: Yes!

Camera: What about now?

Analytics: Door is open!

Camera: Onguard, lock Main Lobby ASAP.

Person standing outside that cannot get in: WTF? my badge doesn't work? Am I fired?

Analytics on Main Lobby Camera: (audio speaker) Attention! access is prohibited while elevator lobby doors are open!

HAL 9000: I have detected a fault in AE-35!

Camera: Are the elevator doors closed?

Analytics: Yes!

Camera: Bro, Lenel, let that dude in and tell HAL to shut up.

We did occupancy detection in the elevator can with video analytics a long time ago for an airport where the cab would be called to an insecure area and passing by a secure floor.

Maybe an occupancy detector in the cab?

The challenge with using an occupancy sensor or camera with video analytics (VA) in the cab is that it would detect people in the cab regardless of what floor they were on. To achieve what the original poster wanted, you would need to detect when the door was open on the specific floor where the sally port was located. I suppose that you could use a camera with VA installed outside the elevator pointing towards the elevator door, but I personally don't trust VA enough to use it in sally port or interlock situation where anything less than 100% reliability is unacceptable.
