Does anyone have a good source for physical security market size? This would include perimeter fencing, gates, sensors and access control?
Does Anyone Have A Good Source For Physical Security Market Size?
IHS says "The global physical security equipment market was estimated to be worth $29.2 billion in 2016, and it is expected to reach $41.7 billion in 2021."
Brice, I am curious. What impact would it have on you if the answer was $30 billion vs $40 vs $50 billion, etc.?
John - Great question! This market size data is incredibly flaky and not very useful in some contexts - conversations that start with "If the market is $29.2 billion and I take a 1% share - then I have a $29.5M company. Invest in my company. We are a sure bet." That isn't interesting to me.
In my context, I am looking at the following:
- change in market size - is there something creating additional market opportunities?
- what is the thinking behind evaluating a market - sometimes you find a interesting trends such as declining government investment in an area or a change in geographic investment.
- finally, I try to do as much as I can to bust out of my own echo chamber by reading IPVM/market evaluations/contrarian opinions/Wall St. Journal/Snapchat (courtesy of my kids)/etc.
In other words, market research reports are just one data point in a much more complex discussion, although it is really nice to have a good market conditions summary as a conversation beginning point.
