I may be nitpicking a bit in a recent reading assignment there is a statement that larger wire sizes are required by longer distances and higher voltages.

it is Current not voltage that is one of the deciding factors in voltage drop.

Example

VD= (2*A*L*R) / 1000

where

VD=voltage drop

A= full load amps

L= one way circuit length in feet

R=resistant (ohms / Kft)

Now if we're given the load in watts or KVA we will need to know the operating voltage to convert this into amps for our equation, but I think access control cut sheets generally list everything in amps w/v=a.

thoughts?
