pay once and can keep on using it indefinitely

That used to be possible in good ole days when tech advancement was slow. Today no tech can last decades, electronics become obsolete in less than a decade, even in 5-6 years. At the same time, cloud management becomes imperative. And it cannot be free at scale, no way. New business is cloud business. Integrators who refuse to embrace it will eventually find themselves in a niche business.
