Last week, the Chinese government released a video of Hikvision's package sorting robots, embedded below:
It has been very well received, with 500,000 views and subsequent articles running on publications as diverse as CNBC, Breitbart, DailyMail, The Verge, etc.
None of the coverage, including the Chinese government's own initial video, discusses Hikvision's ownership or Hikvision's video surveillance offerings.
Most of the coverage focuses on the overall trend of robotics replacing workers. None of it really investigates how good or bad the technology is as the video focuses on one China user of the robotics.
Hikvision has been developing and talking about expanding outside of video surveillance, e.g., into drones and robots, as explained in this Chinese government 2016 piece.
