What Is The Minimum Size For Major Camera Manufacturer's Project Registration?

This is good information to have and can help integrators figure out what cameras to use on large projects. Any feedback is appreciated.

We usually are told around $20K, but Arecont has said "Register one camera if you have to".

Arecont has said "Register one camera if you have to".

Are you serious?

Arecont says in their project registration guidelines $25k or 50 cameras, although I'm not surprised if they make exceptions:

Really not a fan of the "project registration" thing. Wastes more of my time filling out paperwork and most of the time the manufacturers want your end user info BEFORE the project is sold. Just give me my pricing so I can get it loaded in my quoting tool. Then I can rip out quotes without have to haggle with you for the best price every time I send out a quote out.

No offense; but if you don't trust the manufacturer, why are you buying from them???

@Ron Miller I don't if I can help it and if I have to give MY customer info out I give false info. I do alot of my quoting at night so I don't have time to wait till the next day for a response.

"From what we were told the deal went South. The prospect is listed as Bob Smith."

"Bob Smith? Again? That's the third one this month!"

That why you call

Bob Smith_June, Bob Smith_July, .... :)

Axis used to start at 10K but if the project wasn't over 25-30k you wouldn't see more than a courtesy point...

As a manufacturer's rep I usually use $40K (Canadian dollars) or that the project must be "strategically important". I don't register projects without a real project name, I don't need or want actual contact information. In most cases I provide project registration through a distributor but with the condition that the special pricing is tied to the one distributor. If the dealer shops the special pricing to multiple distributors I won't register the next project.

For me, the bigger issue is that most of my manufacturer's only allow 2-3% for registration which is not enough to offer real insulation on a project.

I saw this problem at VideoIQ. We wanted to be able to offer integrators incentive to build designs around our product, and recognize the effort they put into the process.

To me, part of the problem with registration discounts was that they didn't carry the same value to all integrators. You might be a smaller integrator, with the ability to influence the design for a key customer, but a much larger integrator may be able to underbid you, even with your registration discount. This discourages you from specifying the product, as you still may not be able to win the deal.

My solution was to offer a guaranteed registration payout if the deal closed, regardless of the integrator. It was a sliding scale (I'd have to try and find the exact numbers), where deals from $10K-$25K earned ~$750, $25-$50K earned ~$1200, and $50K-$100K+ earned ~$2000.

An integrator had to provide proof to the regional sales manager that they had in fact been the main influencer, much like traditional product registration.

The upside was that if the deal closed you (as an integrator) were guaranteed to get something for your efforts, even if the customer chose a different integrator. It also eliminated problems on the back end of having to track which orders qualified for the discount, especially when components for the project were not always ordered all at once.

Unfortunately, we never got a chance to implement it fully, but I had positive feedback from most of the integrators we had in our partner program.

Would more than one integrator be able to register the same project?
