Axis Camera Delay Start Script

We have remote axis cameras that are powered by PoE ports. Is there a way to delay camera boot when PoE switch is powered on?

Probably not. The camera would kinda need to boot to run a  script to tell it not to boot yet...

I get that. But would it be able to run the script first before powering up other hardware modules such as IR, Heater, Fan etc. The thing is Axis camera is locking up on these remote devices and I'm guessing its because not enough power is supplied to PoE when the unit boots up. If I can delay camera to boot up some time after the unit powers up, I might be able to solve camera locking up. Right now we have no other option other than physically going to the location and power cycling the whole unit (solar powered RDC).

All things considered, I'd look for a PoE switch with remote management capabilities. That would let you automate the startup of cameras (power them up individually through SNMP or similar commands), as well as handle any other remote power cycle/shut down needs, plus be compatible with any PoE camera in case you switch from Axis cameras for any reason.

That is definitely something we have considered. But you have to realize that this is a remotely deployed box with very little room for modification.

Have you tried rebooting the camera through an FTP session? Maybe the camera is powered up enough to try that but not show online or any video.

Here is the process to reboot the camera remotely via FTP.

1. In Windows open the Command Prompt

2. At the command prompt type in (without quotes) “FTP <ip address of the camera>”

3. You should be now asked to enter a username. Enter the username and password that you setup for the camera. The default is:

User: root

Password: pass or whatever password is

4. Once you are logged into the camera type in this command press enter and re-type the command again and press enter again. The command is:

quote site reboot

(then press <enter>)

You may have to enter this command in twice (Just press the up arrow after the first time and it should “re-type” it for you – press enter).
It should respond: 200 Command Okay each time or something similar, then go dead as it reboots.
