Any ideas on how to convert a Keri reader into wiegand? I have a customer that has an old Keri system. I would want to replace it with a different system, but he wants to keep his readers. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Do you have a model number on the reader?

Also, what tips you off it isn't using Wiegand now?

Its the MS-5000 reader. What makes me believe that it is not wiegand, is that on the panels installation manual, it referrers to either using a wiegand reader or a keri reader. Also on the above linked spec sheet there is no mention of wiegand.

Thank you

MS 5000 Install. This install guide appears to show how it can be used as Wiegand.  I would reach out to HID.

If you have not already explained OSDPsc to the client I would recommend you let them know the differences between wiegand and OSDPsc.

If they definitely want to stay wiegand have you looked into Cypress?

Good luck.

Hello Will - What specifically from Cypress can help here?  Is there an adapter module or similar that helps OP?

Brian,

If they want to go OSDP then they could use this.

I do not have a specific part number from Cypress for Keri wiegand conversion.  I have used them in the past to convert other protocols.  If the reader has wiegand wiring instructions it probably does not need anything in the middle.

fwiw.  The new access control controller would need to have OSDP ports as well.  I did not see that info in the post though.

Hi David-

On the question of preserving the installed Keri MS-5000 readers, suggest taking a look at Keri's IntelliProx 2000.  Documentation is found here:  https://www.kerisys.com/sdac/.

The IntelliProx controller unit wires directly to Keri readers (MS-3000, MS-5000, etc.), and includes a Wiegand output (data 0 and data 1).  It's this Weigand output from the IntelliProx controller unit that will allow the MS-5000 reader to communicate directly with most standard electronic access systems.

And you are correct.  The data output of the MS-5000 reader is not Wiegand (blue conductor).  It is also not a serial protocol, such as OSDP.  Rather it is an output unique to Keri.

Hope this is helpful.
