The positives are that it puts Hikvision literally front and center in front of these integrators Plus since PSA has so heavily emphasized the importance of cybersecurity, this buys implicit validation that PSA supports Hikvision's cybersecurity and is not concerned about their government ownership.
Moreover, it shows that Hikvision is dedicated to continuing to spend money to pursue the US market.
And being in person it gives them a chance to humanize the company, attempting to build personal connections to overcome the increasing negative media reports (e.g., WSJ), the Congressional hearing, etc.
The main downside is the cost. The most common Hikvision defense is that things are made cheap in China but Hikvision is spending top dollar on sales and marketing in the West. This is just another example of that.
I think it's the right call to try to rebuild trust but it's an expensive process that still may not work.
I agree with you John on this, get out in public and talk about it.
You need both sides of the story to form a good opinion, and this gives them a voice to vocalize their side of matters.
Being a sponsor doesn't necessarily get you in front of cyber folks. Some conference organizers make sure the sponsors are shielded from serious questions. Biting the hand that feeds them and all that.
Rodney, does PSA make sure of that? I ask because you are listed on PSA's cybersecurity advisory board.
