A TikTok ban has been discussed for years, given concerns that Beijing-based parent company ByteDance is ultimately beholden to the PRC China government, and would allow them to steal or exploit user data.

Now, a bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced legislation that bans TikTok unless ByteDance sells the subsidiary. The bill has more than a dozen sponsors from both parties, including Rep Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL).
