Though this will be useful, it's worth noting that the data rate appears not to be increasing at all:
2MP x 30 FPS = 3MP x 20 FPS = 5MP x 12 FPS = 60 MPFPS
So since 30 FPS is faster than most need, they can afford to rob Peter to pay Paul.
But they will end-up deep in Arecont territory if they continue trading frames for pixels.
Very good point undisclosed 1! I was impressed until I saw your post. They must have reached the limit of what the cable can reliably transmit. Still, the distance increase for cabling is interesting.

I'm curious if the increased resolution of the various HD analog formats will drive the market towards more efficient encoding at the DVR. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of the HD Analog DVRs are using Smart h.264 or h.265 encoding yet.
Bob, I have not seen any smart codecs or H.265 with HD analog yet, however, there is no fundamental barrier or issue in doing so.
I suspect that since most of the HD analog is being sold into lower camera count applications, that storage is not much of a practical problem (i.e., one hard drive is good enough for most). However, for HD analog to move up market, there will need to be recorders / encoders that support smart codecs or H.265.

My interest in the newer codecs is more about reducing bandwidth when remote viewing. Some of the sites where I have HD DVR setups don't have much bandwidth available. Also I have clients who like being able to bring up full resolution camera footage on their phone or tablet and leave it running, which of course can chew up a mobile data plan.
