Aloha POS Integration To LTS NVR Question

I am integrating POS data to a LTS NVR via serial/IP converter. The POS system is an Aloha by NCR. The support for the system is given by Retail Technology Group and they have no clue about setting up Com port to send POS data to the NVR. Does anyone have any background with Aloha POS?

Hi Matthew, no experience on my end with LTS or Aloha, but have a general idea of how these typically work.

I'm surprised LTS couldn't tell you how to output transaction data from the serial port? Typically either the line to the serial printer (if present) will be tapped into using a TCP serial server where the data passes through the serial server to the printer, and all the data that passes through can be accessed via ethernet. In that case, you just need to know what the baud rate is, data bits (often 8), stop bits (often 1), parity (often none), and the rest is configured on the VMS/NVR.

If the POS printer is USB or there is a second serial port, you may be able to enable transaction output on that port, and you may optionally be able to configure the data rate and so on. But the POS vendor should really be able to point you in the right direction to do that.

The LTS NVR must either have a serial port to connect to the POS, or more likely I'm guessing they have a configuration area where they can point to an IP/Port to connect and receive transaction data. Or optionally it may just have a port that it listens on for incoming connections. In that case you would configure the TCP serial server to operate as a "client" and connect to the NVR IP/port to send transaction data.

I have communication to the NVR from the comm port that the printer is plugged into but the text is encrypted so the serial splitter won't work. I can't find a knowledgeable Aloha tech that can configure another comm port to send clear text data. That's why I was asking on here to see if anyone had experience with Aloha.

I guess since I'm installing a Hik OEM my post is irrelevant to the vast majority on here. I guess if I was bashing them I'd have 50 responses.

Are you sure the text is encrypted? If you don't have the parameters just right, serial comms can look like wingdings. It seems improbable that they'd encrypt serial output, but hopefully they'll get someone knowledgeable to help you out!

I find this snippy remark a little offensive but I gather you are getting pushed to finish.

I would be really surprised if the data between the POS and the printer were encrypted only because the printer would then need to decrypt something that will be printed in plain english.  I certainly haven’t seen it.

LTS should be able to tell you how to configure their device ONCE you know what the printer is receiving.

Aloha could help you, but you aren’t a dealer. They have a few DVR’s they are specifically integrated with.

Now that I’ve defined some of the obstacles I would see if this company would help you.  It might be advantageous to use their device in the middle of just to have future support.
