I support improving school safety at any necessary cost within reason, but the ongoing wave of safety funding for US schools has the key problem that districts receive little guidance on how to spend it. They decide individually whether to invest in security technology or mental health programs or something else, leading to widely varying ROIs.
In the latest example, North Carolina state education officials have announced $35 million in grants to 230 school districts in the state. This adds to billions in nationwide school safety funding in recent years. See related: $1 Billion In Grants For Improving School Security Examined
