Microsoft announced last week that Sudo for Windows 11 would be introduced as part of an early preview to allow users to execute commands with administrator privileges and choose to open-source the project.

While it is a new way for Microsoft, sudo was introduced around 1980 in the Department of Computer Science at SUNY/Buffalo, where it ran on a VAX-11/750 with 4.1BSD.
