Can Anyone Suggest A DVR With Jog/Shuttle Knob To Record Sporting Events?

Have a customer looking for a replacement DVR. They use it to record sporting events and need to playback video quickly to settle disputes during the game. There are only 3 analog cameras connected to the machine and they don't need really anything else in the way of features. Can anyone suggest an appropriate DVR?

I was hoping someone with more information would have something to say, because I haven't really used the jog dials on DVRs in ages.

Several Hanwha analog and AHD DVRs include dials, though I have never tried a model which does.

There are jog dials on many up to date models of HD analog DVRs from Hikvision, like this DS-7308HUHI-F4:

They should support existing analog cameras without issue. I think Hikvision has discontinued their SD analog DVRs at this point, or at least they are not in the catalog.

Older Dahua models had this dial as well, but looking at their DVRs now, I do not see it on any current ones.

Others may have other suggestions, as well. What manufacturer/model are you replacing?

The unit that failed was about 10 years old and wasn’t labeled with any discernible make or model. I threw an analog FLIR unit in for now because they needed something literally for the next day. The FLIR has the timeline that you can slide back and forth with the mouse that the customer seems to be OK with for now. Problem is the FLIR unit was bad out of the box, only displaying monochrome video. FLIR wants me to send it back so the can “test it with one of their cameras”-ridiculous of course because all connected cameras display a color picture on my service monitor and we all know that analog video is standardized at 1 volt peak to peak. The tech support agent literally sounded suprised when he learned that they weren’t FLIR cameras and he latched on to that as the issue. Of course I’m not going to send back a 4 channel analog DVR that I’ve had on hand for 2 or 3 years, shipping would cost more than the unit is worth at this point. So they got a free DVR and now I’m looking to replace the 3 cameras and DVR with 3 IP cams and a recorder. All they need is an easy way to review video recorded during the hockey game.

Just an idea, not sure if you are aware of keyboards, but Hikvision makes one with a joystick to replicate the jog dial. This would allow you to open up your choice of recorder. You wouldn't be required to find one with a jog dial, if you add the keyboard. Also, the keyboard can be located wherever you like. It doesn't have to be near the DVR if desired.

I wasn’t aware. Is the keyboard compatible with most models?

I would think this particular one would work best with Hikvision units, but most manufacturers make similar units. If you have a Flir, it was likely made by Dahua, so you could go that route.
