I purchased several Axis M3048-P cameras, hoping to get a higher resolution version of the M3007-P.

The M3048-P was touted as being a 12MP camera, while the M3007-P is 5MP (2592x1944).

Here are the issues I have with the camera:

1. The maximum resolution available from the camera is a fisheye view at 8MP (2880x2880)
2. The only way to have the camera de-warp internally is to lower the fisheye view to 4MP (2048x2048)
3. I am only able to configure the camera to present 1 de-warped camera view along with a lower resolution fisheye view.
360° overview: 2880x2880 (2048x2048 if de-warping 1 of the images below)
Panorama: 2560x720
Double Panorama: 2560x1440
Quad view: 2560x1440 (4 camera views in 1 image)
Corner left or right: 1920x720
Double Corner: 1920x1440
Corridor: 2560x1440

For reference, the M3007-P presents 8 camera views
Overview/Warped: 2592x1944 (5 MP)
Panorama: 1920x720
Double Panorama: 1920x1440
Quad view: 1920x1440
View area 1: 1920x1440
View area 2: 1920x1440
View area 3: 1920x1440
View area 4: 1920x1440

Frequently they play spec games with fisheyes. Calling it 12mp when effectively it is reduced to 8-9 because most of the rectangular image area is tossed when cropping to a circle.

I've noticed low framerates on the Axis fisheyes at full resolutions. I assume this corresponds to the onboard processor capabilities. I'm curious what kind of chips manufacturers use for dewarping; is it a different architecture than a typical IP camera?
