Dumbest Awards We've Ever Seen

Just when you think awards couldn't get any stupider, a US trade magazine, GSN, steps up the plate with the most dumbfounding video surveillance awards we have ever seen.

While magazine/show awards typically lack a clear and fair awards process, usually they at least sound reasonable. GSN's are not even close.

The Winner for Best Intelligent Video Solution

First, here are the intelligent video finalists:

  • BRS Labs
  • Logos Technologies
  • Motorola
  • NICE
  • Panasonic

And the winner is ..... Panasonic for their 1080p vandal dome [link no longer available]!

How this is even considered intelligent video is beyond me. It's a fine camera (we tested the box version) but it makes no sense as an 'intelligent video solution'.

The Winner for Best Video Storage/Digital Transmission Systems

Here are the finalists:

  • Vievu
  • Intransa
  • Panasonic

And the winner is .... Panasonic for their WJ-ND400 recorder.

I suppose we just be happy that they didn't choose Intransa!

How any of these companies were even finalists is bizarre, forget about all the prominent companies with major government deployments left out.

The Winner for Best Network IP Cameras

Axis won best IP cameras which is certainly a reasonable choice. However, bizarelly, Panasonic was not even a finalist for cameras even though they won best analytics and recorder. Plus, there were just two other entrants in this category: Honeywell and Sony.

Conclusion

I am geniunely confused if these organizations have any shame. These awards do not seem particularly rigged just deeply incompetent as if the judges neither cared nor knew anything about surveillance.
