I was hoping for some high speed test. Hikvision, Dahua, Vivotek - they all are claiming very high speeds and I wonder - it's only datasheet spec (like calculated based on shutter speed, frame rate and in ideal conditions), or is it reality :P

Hello UD#1,

Vivotek makes it clear that the IB9387-LPR camera is meant strictly for slow-moving vehicles and applications like tolls and gates:

VIVOTEK’s IB9387-LPR camera... converts number plates into Wiegand signals for use with an access control system, and also offers various APIs for integration with 3rd party systems such as parking management, toll collection, and weighbridge systems. The system is ideally applied for parking access control and Stop & Go toll systems or any LPR applications where a vehicle stops, or almost comes to a complete stop.

Vivotek has several LPR cameras that are specifically spec'd for faster speeds, and that said, we may test their newer "Street Kit" in the future.

Also, we plan on doing a large comparison/shootout between a variety of LPR cameras, and we will put all models through a slow and fast vehicle speeds, among other tests.

Thank you Derek for making that clarification about the IB9387-LPR being meant for Stop & Go Applications. As for the higher speeds that Undisclosed #1 asks about, VIVOTEK presented our new IP9165-LPR KIT City Streets model during the IPVM Online Shows on Tuesday. This new model, like the one in your test above, has embedded LPR software and Centralized List Management in the camera, but is designed for city speeds of up to 56mph (90kmph). This model is currently slated for a June release.

Was this tested with a Vivotek NVR? Also, will the integration with ONVIF analytics framework allow the camera to be used with other manufacturers NVRs?

No, we this tested mainly with the camera's on-board ANPR software. As you can see, we had issues getting the events/alarm to cross over into other VMSes, with Vivotek claiming improvements on that in a future update.

I'm curious, what Vivotek NVR do you recommend we test with? When the next LPR update is released, we will come back around and test integrations.

Thanks for the response Derek.

I guess my question is more of a general question about integration with other manufacturers NVRs. Our experience is that LPR Cameras only work well when used with the same manufacturers NVR. I suspect that since there were issues with cross over into other VMSes, that it would be similar with NVR compatibility.

We have projects with the KIT LPR since its launch, with the first Kits and now with the new ones, we have numerous projects with our integrators, using the ISS VMS and some with Digifort (Neural Labs). The results with ISS are incredible, and very satisfactory with an index of assertiveness that we had never seen, especially at night, easily reading 2 ways and the bikes, the KIT LPR is fantastic, associated with the ISS, test and then tell us. You will be surprised by the result. Our integrators with public projects are extremely satisfied.

when using the Vivotek IB9387-LPR camera, which shows built-in LPR engine. Do i need standard channel license from Milestone or Digifort OR LPR license ?

Hello Waleed,

The camera comes with the ANPR license and program built-in, and you use the LPR application in the camera. From what we have tested, there are no additional LPR licenses needed for Milestone, as events were configured to be standard alarms, which we show in the report.
