The poor state of video analytics is exemplified by video analytic manufacturers that deny they are video analytics. Briefcam recently took to Twitter to issue their denial.

At one level, they clearly perform video analytics. They analyze video, generate metadata and build synopses of notable events.

On the other hand, because their solution addresses search and investigation, they are not subject to the same issues of 'video analytics' - false alarms most notably. However, they also do not have the same upside to stop incidents in real-time.

Given the negativity around video analytics, Briefcam's choice is probably prudent. For an overview, see our examination of Briefcam's technology.
