ONVIF Camera Code Open Source'd (Vicon)

Author: Brian Karas, Published on Mar 30, 2016

Vicon is joining the open source community by releasing their ONVIF and camera source code, something relatively unheard of in the security industry.

We spoke with Vicon, and examine their motivations behind this move.

We had talked about: Is There An Official ONVIF SDK / Reference Implementation? and determined there is none.

On the one hand, I do think it is a concern that their ONVIF code is out of date. On the other, since ONVIF itself refused to do this and I do not know of anyone else offering this, it is certainly a step in the right direction.
