Using Managed Video Integrated with PoS

A supermarket was able to discover a large amount of shrink using managed video integrated with PoS. This is an interesting example of how an emerging trend can provide business value.

The provider, Agilence, provides on-staff monitors who review video and PoS information from customer's systems. They regularly review sales promotions to identify any mistakes or problems. They recently discovered that a Buy One, Get Two Free coupon suffered [link no longer available] from two issues: (1) incorrect setup of the coupon and (2) duplicate UPC code on the coupon.

While this is not a typical loss prevention issue, it does identify other value generating opportunities for surveillance systems. Furthermore, it's the type of issue that does not require science fiction technology, just integrated processes and dedicated staff to conduct.
