5 security system distributors recently provided input on strong and weak sales areas. Not surprisingly, all distributors agreed on the sales strength of IP and, in particular, megapixel. See the original Security Sales magazine report [link no longer available]:

Answering the question, "What are your top-selling product types this year, and what others do you see coming on strong?"

  • ADI: "Video surveillance products continue to remain strong. The IP market has been growing as the need for networked security environments and central control and management continue to become increasingly important."
  • ScanSource: "IP cameras, specifically megapixel IP cameras, are doing very well."
  • Northern/Tri-Ed: "The IP video category has been a strong performer this year."
  • Security Solutions: "We see growth in the network video space. IP cameras, encoders, storage products and video management solutions are areas that we see as great opportunities"
The most interesting statements are from ADI and Norther/Tri-Ed, two organizations that primarily serve the 'traditional' physical security integrator. This demonstrates that even in the 'strongholds' of analog, IP is a key source of growth across all security products line being offered.
