You should also check out Allgovision, an Indian company that does analytics including LPR on a regular 2 MP camera as well.

Genetec also now has Flex Reader, an on-site server in addition plate reader cloud. Has there been an LPR software shootout yet? I'd like to see that!

OpenALPR includes benchmarks and test data sets for comparisons.  In addition, the cost per camera starts at $1,000 (for a paid up on-premises license) or a pay-as-you-go $39 per month per camera monthly fee. http://www.openalpr.com/benchmarks.html

Anyone can download and install a free, fully functioning trial license at: www.openalpr.com.

The non-ocr explains some things I have experienced, thanks!

Joe - what have you experienced? I've investigated this product previously and am interested. Any feedback you have would be beneficial.

Probably how the engine concentrates only on the plate. It has its advantages and disadvantages. We've noticed it can read some really bad plate captures fine, but others that are near perfect it hasn't recognized. I'm in a state where people pay $400,000+ for a license plate alone, and we have dozens of different styles of plates and it not doing OCR explains why a perfect capture is not recognized. They probably cant sample every different style enough to get each one with this method.  On a positive note it has never picked up anything other than a plate, like a telephone number or other logo type content. Combined with the installation location within 30 minutes of 3 other states has made a somewhat challenging installation.

It would be nice if they added a feature so as even if it didn't recognize the plate it logged it with the image and just notated "unrecognized"

I see a response below here about lack of response, fortunately, for me they have been responsive and have accepted thousands of sample images from our captures to improve the product in my area.

I am an ecosystem partner of Platesmart and I have to say, they are by far the best LPR I have seen in the field. The shots they grab off the weirdest angles on existing cameras is flat amazing.

The biggest problem with them is a sheer lack of response. As a fellow manufacturer I have had to quit recommending them because my accounts just can’t get a response.

Maybe that will change if they add some people. It’s a shame, the technology is outstanding.

Is this yearly?

  • $2,200 MSRP per camera, $600 MSRP software maintenance
  • Enterprise-wide bulk purchasing over 100 cameras

Or is this an initial license. I am interested in PlateSmart as our LPR solution. We have 16 channels we want to monitor.

The $2,200 MSRP is a 1-time license cost and the $600 MSRP is a recurring yearly software maintenance fee.

Hey Michael, if you're around contact Matt Alden at Security 101. He's my go-to, and we are currently picking up this project again this week. Or just DM, and we'll pick up with my integrator.

Is there a method to "seamlessly" transfer a 1-time license, within the same account, from one camera to another based upon activity or needs that might occur temporarily?

If I'm understanding this correctly, you have perhaps four cameras set up for ALPR, but you only want to use one camera at a time with one license and have the capability to rotate that license between cameras with only one active at a time for LPR? If so, yes you can do this. If I've misunderstood this, though, please let me know.
