The Future of Metalens For Video Surveillance Cameras - MIT / UMass / Immervision
Panoramic cameras using 'fisheye' lens have become commonplace in video surveillance over the past decade. Now, researchers are working on 'metalenses' that aim to be thinner and less expensive.
This gained mainstream attention recently when MIT announced 'a fisheye lens that’s completely flat'.
We spoke with the MIT scientists about this as well as Immervision, a major current panoramic lens provider, and Jacob Engleberg, a researcher at Hebrew University working on metalenses to better understand the potential for this technology.
