Yes, I think PRC issues presents more of an opportunity for Hanwha (and others like Vivotek), than it would Axis. A budget customer who was using Hikua would not immediately jump to a top pricing tier solution like Axis. It might even be a threat to Axis, because if more people who are now using Hanwha start rubbing elbows with Axis users (through forums, industry events, etc) and the Axis users see a pretty close comparative performance in Hanwha and at a cheaper price, and without the cyber security and political issues that kept them out of Hikua, those Axis users might start considering a switch.

Especially if their budgets start getting slashed when the bill for lockdowns start coming due or the threat of rising corporate taxes.

I had to admonish Verkada NOT to offer direct promotions to our sales teams. Once they had our salespeople's email, they received $50-200 bonus offers directly to the salesperson for selling their products. I advised Verkada that managing our salespeople is OUR job, not theirs, and we are happy to pass through promotions when received by our SM and if they fit within our guidelines and overall strategy.

They promised to work with us in the future. We will see if they can follow our policy.

We will continue to propose Verkada when it is a good value for our clients, but we never sell 10 years of monitoring into the future. As a startup, we advise our clients that the chances of someone honoring that warranty is high risk. We do sell their systems with shorter, more reasonable forward-monitoring contracts.

Coming back to this article again, on the point about AI (or lack of AI) being a point of competitiveness to video analytics, what exactly is considered here as constituting AI? I have in my mind what AI is and it's differences from video analytics, but the security industry does not always share those same perceptions. Some people likened video analytics to AI in the early days.

Is there already an article or discussion addressing this question on the technical differences?

The problem is that there is no universally agreed upon definition of AI. This is like VSaaS where people debate whether it means hosted video only or managed video, etc.
