Each year, SIA / ISC West chooses their Best New Product of the show. Previous winners include luminaries Object Video, FST, A4 Vision, Capture Omniscape, SV3, Pivot3, etc.

This year, the winner is Israeli startup Lynx TFG for their Tiger mobile streaming platform.

We spoke with the company during the show, and share details inside including our competitive analysis against rival mobile options.

ISC West likes to pick startups with 'different' approaches but, as the results show, almost never do these companies become significant market players.

My pick for 2016 would have been Hikvision Turbo 3.0 analog HD. Not only does it have a number of major advances (higher resolution analog, longer range, Power over Coax), Hikvision is going to use its sales and marketing muscle to make it a major force.

They don't follow the recipe that most of us would, but ISC West is run by marketers...marketers that want people thinking that they were missing out if they skipped the show.

One way to inspire that feeling would be to make sure that the "Best in Show" winners are totally unpredictable to people who stayed home.

That's an intriguing idea.

I am not sure but I would think marketers would want to reward their biggest customers (e.g., Axis, Hikvision, etc.).

But maybe giving it to an 'unknown' company every time avoids upset large sponsors.

That said, I think the simpler answer is that the judges are often not very sophisticated and easily get razzle dazzled, e.g., Best New Product Awards Investigated

Maybe they could use the same strategy manufacturers use when handing out their "Partner of the Year" awards...

It's also interesting that Tiger won this award, considering this wording from the SIA page:

  1. The product or service entered in the New Product Showcase (NPS) program must have been released after April 5, 2015, and must be available for sale and shipment on or before April 6, 2016.
  2. If, after registering for the NPS, a company discovers that the product or service entered will not be available for sale and shipment by April 6, 2016, its representative is required to notify the Security Industry Association (SIA) as soon as possible.
