Published Jan 19, 2015 05:00 AM

140 video surveillance professionals, including integrators and manufacturers, shared the largest video surveillance projects that they have seen in the past year.

Key Patterns

The survey results revealed a number of key patterns, including:

  • City surveillance, retail and transit were, by far, the top verticals for the biggest projects.
  • North America lagged in mega city surveillance projects but lead in mega retail ones.
  • The median largest project for integrators was ~250 cameras

Color Commentary

Professionals shared more than 100 specific examples of large projects, such as:

"A 2000 Camera deployment for the Egyptian Metro (47 stations). The project had Cameras, VMS, Video Analytics, Access Control integration, UPSes (40min backup time), Fiber, ~ 3.5 miles Trenching, Switches. The project was won with Axis & Aimetis for about $5.2 million. The competition was Hikvision. Axis cameras were cheaper than Hikvision"

Although not typically as highly touted as city surveillance projects, casino surveillance projects are often in the same class. Examples:

  1. Pelco: Black Oak Casino - Over 400 cameras
  2. IndigoVision: Chinook Winds - 500 cameras
  3. IndigoVision: Coquimbo, Chile - up to 2.500 cameras
  4. Dallmeier: City of Dreams Casino, Macau - nearly 5,000 cameras

Numerous other examples. Granted, not all examples above are new but I know of at least 2-3 casino projects IndigoVision alone is either in process of installation or has signed a contract. Never mind the other players in the casino verticle such as Genetech, Pelco, Dallmeier, Honeywell and Avigilon.

While there are casino projects in the thousands of cameras, it seems like most are in the hundreds. Relative to city and retail, casinos are comparably 'small'.

The upside is that there are more casinos than their are city projects or large chain retailers.

Poor Black Oak Casino,

You would have thought someone would have explained more on the futility of going towards Endura.

Have to agree but it is what it is. I used to marvel at the system choices of some casinos but now I just shrug and grin.

One of the largest casino property at Macau has about 11,000 cameras. Around ~7,000 of them has been deployed and up running. The rest of ~4,000 should be deployed in near future.

One point to analyze in the count:

Is it the same one client with 100 stores with 50 cameras each (5000 cameras) and 1 single installation of 5000?
