ISC West 2018 Access Control Rundown

Published Apr 06, 2018 15:01 PM

For ISC West 2018, what is new and interesting in access control?

This rundown will bring you up to speed on the exhibitors, what they are releasing, and give you an idea of what is new.

Notable Trends

In terms of marketwide trends, three themes are featured as prominent among exhibitors:

  • Mobile Access: Multiple access management and credential companies have announced products that combine smartphones with contactless cards, using BLE, NFC, or Apps and user management portals.
  • Biometrics: While seemingly a perpetual source of 'next big thing' marketing and despite market disinterest, there are several new potentially disruptive releases.
  • Residential Access: Interestingly, products and platforms built for residential access control, often including lock types like padlocks not used in commercial access is a growing segment as well.

In the company breakout sections that follow we include the new entrants in each of these macro-trends.

Hi Brian,

If I may, I would like to throw BluBØX (Booth 27121) into your list. I won’t add any Marketing mumbojumbo just real stuff for everyone to dijest what we are doing and how it’s different.

We recently released a new product called BluREMOTE. It comes free with our BluSKY platform and every existing customer already has access to use BluREMOTE with their systems.

How it Works
For starters, BluREMOTE does not use a mobile app nor Bluetooth. But it does require an internet connection. Just log into BluSKY using your browser, select the BluREMOTE icon, and then select the portal, elevator or floor you wish to access. You will see your request followed by a feedback message containing access granted, access denied (and the reason) or an elevator car assignment. You will only see the portals, elevators or floors to which you have access and that are in proximity to you. BluREMOTE follows all the rules established for a Person such as ADA, VIP, segmentation, life safety overrides, default floor, etc. Log in once at the beginning of the workday and remain logged in throughout the day for easy access to BluREMOTE at any time.

BluREMOTE also enables a person to use their smartphone and receive an elevator car assignment back on their smartphone from the DDE system. BluREMOTE can also set the floor stops a person has access to for traditional relay elevator access control. So essentially every person in a facility, with the appropriate access, has an identity device and DDE keypad in the palm of their hands.

BluREMOTE works across all six DDE systems that we integrate with today; KONE, MCE, Mitsubishi, OTIS, Schindler and Thyssen Krupp. There is nothing that a an elevator manufacturer has to do to get their system to work with BluREMOTE. All the work is done on the BluSKY side.

BluSKY Virtual Credential Technology represents a big step forward for the security industry because you no longer have to have a physical credential, a Bluetooth credential or even a reader to provide secure access. The smartphone is the reader and the credential is virtual in the BluSKY Cloud. Because the technology does not rely on card readers and cards, all the problems associated with card formats and cloning go away. The virtual credential can be used across systems such as on a base building turnstile and elevators and then on tenant doors. The technology can also be used remotely at a security desk, a reception desk, a gate, or a garage. It is a more secure way to provide access because it creates an audit trail of the event. It also provides better two way communication between a person and a secure area. If a person can’t gain access, a message as to why they are being denied access is presented. This is far better than no message from a reader. Virtual credentials can also request or provide one time access exceptions and additional identity information. All things conventional readers can’t provide.

We would love for you and everyone else to stop by and take a look!

Hello BluBØX, I cannot wait to stop by your booth I like the features you bring to the game.

Is BluBØX using Navizon (Dragonfly) for your virtual credential? Thanks!
