Hikvision USA Giving Free Cameras In Biggest Flash Sale

By John Honovich, Published Jun 26, 2019, 01:31pm EDT

Hikvision redefined sales promotions in the US video surveillance market, starting at the end of 2015, with across the board discounts.

Now, after the backdoor, the ban, and impending sanctions, Hikvision USA is back with its biggest sale ever:

Will there be a day when Hik isn’t at the top of the article list on here?

Jason, the lead article on the home page right now is FLIR Launches Saros, the day before that we released Axis Live Privacy Shield Analytics Tested. The lead article in the Monday newsletter was Genetec Beats Milestone For IHS #1. The lead article in last Thursday's newsletter was Repositionable Multi-Imager Camera Shootout - Avigilon, Axis, Dahua, Hanwha, Hikvision, Panasonic, Vivotek.

Do you have anything more accurate or informative to add?

My email alert has Hik as number 2 bold topic below startups. But whatever, your hair splitting doesn’t negate my point. Can we get less Hik?

“I long for the day that the email alert headlines I get from IPVM don’t include HIK in the top of the list”. Better?

They are the largest video surveillance manufacturer in the world and they are in the middle of a conflict with the US government, so no, we are not going to 'get less' Hikvision right now.

Our responsibility, at the same time, is to continue to cover other companies and technologies and, as I listed above, we are certainly doing so.

Odd way to get to this point in the discussion but thank you for the reply, makes sense.

Put it this way: we're probably not more than 2 years away from the last Hikvision related headline on IPVM.

Let’s hope so. This article in particular struck me as an advertisement. I know it wasn’t but it’s the only way I was made aware of the big sale going on and all of the details. While That may not have been it’s intent it had the same effect.

This article in particular struck me as an advertisement.

That is funny. In between our multi-year campaign to expose Hikvision's deceptive PRC government control, cybersecurity issues and profiting from human rights abuses, we are running advertisements for their flash sales?

The flash sale ended yesterday (Wednesday). We learned about it on Monday, the day before it started. We held the release until Wednesday afternoon and newsletter inclusion until this morning (after the sale ended) to not inadvertently help the sale.

Like or dislike Hikvision, such an unprecedented sale is news as it shows the state of a company.

Now, realistically, the manufacturer most likely to go out of business in the USA is Hikvision USA (or Dahua USA).

that may be the nicest thing you ever said about Pelco ;)

Just to keep the Hik thing going.....  I've always liked their product. If they could fix all the security issues and openly have John test them, then despite who they sell to that some don't like,. I'd buy them again. Until the security flaws get fixed and tested as fixed, they are dead in the water.  The quality of their product was good and gave me best bang for my buck

Now Dahua is giving away a free camera though it is a much less expensive camera and requires a $5,000 minimum purchase, not $3,000:

There was also one at the end of July.
