Inside this note, we examine the moves and how it fits into a trend of manufacturers objecting to 2020 trade shows and what the future of manufacturer virtual 'trade shows' maybe.

I can't disagree with their choice. Expectations for shows in 2020 are minimal at best, but the costs are still high. Why chase bad money with good money at this point?

Because Reed is not being cooperative.

Once you already have a large chunk of money paid as a deposit that you cannot get back, is it better to have that money essentially return absolutely zero value, or put a little more down to attend and try to make something of the show?

It's a tough choice, one that we (Vintra) have discussed many times already. I still have not come to a final decision on what our ISC West 2020 v3 strategy is going to be.

That's why I agree, for ISCW, with the skeleton crew. Money spent through Reed is already lost so now the conversation is what value can we honestly expect with what additional costs. Reducing staff drops the cost greatly and with everyone expecting a small-to-terrible turnout I would think a typical booth can be ran with just a few people.

GSX and other shows that haven't been pushed yet and are not ran by Reed are a different story. If you can pull out of those events then why not?

Yes, at this point there are so many shows stacked up in the September/October time frame there is no value in trying to have a presence at all of them. Selecting a single one to attend, even if you lose deposits in some cases, is logical.
