We bought and tested the FLIR Saros DH-390 in real world scenes to see how accurate it really is, examining:

  • How susceptible was Saros to false alerts from foliage, animals, lights, rain, and other sources?
  • How accurate was human and vehicle and classification?
  • What setup and configuration are required?
  • How do bitrates compare to typical domes?
  • How does Saros's size and form factor compare to other cameras?

IPVM and Readers:

I would like to clarify the integration piece specifically with Genetec.  With 5.8, both the visible and the thermal stream are available along with events.  With 5.7 there is a setting called Compatibility Mode.  Putting a check mark in this box will allow both streams to automatically add to Security Center.

We also have a custom plug in that is available that allows for more detailed configuration of the events and also picture in picture for thermal and visible scenes in an individual Security Center tile.  Currently the plug in supports 5.7 with a 5.8 plug in pending release.

Hi Jason exciting camera can you clarify - was the human detection in night the same as the 120 feet in visible light and also is there a more narrow choice of lenses that would extend the human detection distance.

Right now there is no options for lens configuration.  As far as the testing, I did not perform the testing, the IPVM crew did.

The detection is the same in zero light vs daylight...the detection is done by the thermal sensors onboard.  The detection is not being done on the visible spectrum.

How does the installer lock the eyeball upon install to prevent it from moving or being tampered with?

Hey Jon,

There are set screws on the outside to lock the "eyeball" in place.  The eyeball itself also has a spring mechanism inside of the Saros camera that "holds" the eyeball in place.
